Today is my 89th birthday

My name is Joseph, and I find myself here in a retirement home, with a plate of dumplings before me. I am unsure who took the time to prepare these for me, and I wonder who might take a moment to wish me a happy birthday today. I have three children, but it has been ages since I last saw them. They brought me to this place, assuring me it was for my own benefit, yet as days turn into weeks, the phone remains silent.

I’m not angry, just filled with sadness.
Sadness because, deep within, my love for them has never wavered, despite their absence. Sadness because I don’t ask for much: just a simple embrace, a few words, a “Happy Birthday, Dad.”

I just wish someone would remember me today.
If you find yourself reading this message, spare me a thought. Not because you know me, but because even the thought of a stranger can bring warmth to silence.

At this stage of life, you rely on memories and hope.
And today, my hope is that this message touches the hearts of those who have forgotten the importance of showing affection, before it becomes too late.

To all the fathers and grandfathers who find themselves alone, my heartfelt wishes go out to you. Remember, you are cherished, even if those words go unspoken.
